Hi! My name is Emily and I would really like to meet your dog!

The “why” behind starting Roam Away From Home is that beautiful lab wearing a sunflower bandanna in the photo to the left. Her name was Bella and she was my soulmate. From 8 weeks old to her unexpected passing at 11 years and one week, she was the absolute perfect dog to ever exist and my best friend. And trust me when I say she was perfect, because I have met a lot of dogs in my time.

In a previous life I worked too much and did not spend near enough time with Bella and realized that the lives of our furry family members are entirely too short to not give them the best care and the most time possible. 

The creation of Roam Away From Home started with Bella lying next to me on our couch and me writing words and thoughts that came to mind about the dog business I wanted to create, but on my terms and different from the traditional “boarding” facilities already out in the community.  (And as a side note, no hate or shade towards any of the other pet care facilities in my immediate or neighboring communities.  We all share a common goal in the end, and that is to provide exceptional pet care.  We all just get to that end goal in different ways and that’s what makes the world go round!)

I started in 2016, by word of mouth and one dog at a time.  It was a win for Bella because she had a constant flow of new friends in and out, and it gave me the opportunity to learn, literally on my feet.  I grew quickly and fiercely, so much that I started the ever so daunting task of finding a larger property that would allow for more dogs under one roof and the space for expansion, physically as well as growth for the business.

Otherwise I will spare you all from the almost 2 full years of craziness and fast forward to where I am now; a homeowner in the space I literally created and imagined, only in my dreams. 

I jokingly say to people that my property is like dog Disneyland. (Mr. Disney and associates and current legal team-I own no rights to the name of your wonderful theme parks or products, but I do rep your head mouse with a tattoo on my foot!) My #1 goal is your pets safety and security, which is why over the years I have tweaked, changed, and developed policies and procedures that work to ensure that your pet is taken care of while you, the parent, is able to enjoy your vacation, work trip, or one night out to celebrate something special.  The name of my business took me months to decide on, and like all wonderful ideas, it came to me in the bathroom one day: Roam Away From Home. Your pet can “roam” to my home and be safe, comfortable, loved and cared for as if he or she is in their own space.  Humans deserve holidays and time off-to recharge, relax and get away.  I am here to give pet parents the permission to take care of themselves through some time off and allow me to spoil and pamper their pets!

The dream I created for my own business evolves on a daily basis, but the one thing that has been steadfast since inception is I wanted to create a place where I can hang out with dogs and see them be happy and living their lives while giving their parents peace of mind and permission to enjoy some time away.
